The Emerald Tree Monitor is an excellent climber, with long limbs, toes and claws alongside a prehensile tail, which acts as a fifth limb. These adaptations mean they can spend most of their time in tree branches. They will even sleep in the trees by wrapping their tail around a branch while holding on with their claws.
However, Emerald Tree Monitors will leave the trees to lay eggs. Females have been reported to use termite mounds as nesting chambers, as their temperature and humidity make them the perfect incubators.
