These wild relatives of domestic guinea pigs live in small groups consisting of a male, one or two females and their young.
Behaviour: Scent marking is used to mark an individual’s territory, ward off rival males and to attract potential mates.
Also known as cavies, they are diurnal, mainly emerging in the early morning to forage and again in the evening. They are herbivores, and their ever-growing teeth are maintained at a constant length by continuous gnawing.
