Conservation projects

The awareness parks like us help to generate is vital to the long-term survival of fragile species and the wider cause of conservation. Some 48 bird and mammal extinctions have been prevented by conservation, including reintroduction programmes and zoo-based conservation.

Long term commitment through memberships, animal adoptions and donations help us to secure our future.

Our animal team is always busy with various conservation projects. At the moment, this includes:

  • Involvement in European Endangered Species programmes (EEP’s)
  • Medicinal Leech recovery project – we are an ‘ARK’ collection
  • Conservation on our wider 350-acre Estate, including invertebrate monitoring and wild bird monitoring
  • Dormouse project in partnerships with the Berkshire Mammal Group.

We are also supporting the key charities ‘Animals in Asia’ and ‘Bear Conservation’. Did you know that more than 10,000 bears are held in captivity in Asia to have bile extracted from their gall bladders for traditional medicine? Many are kept for up to 30 years in cages so small that they can’t turn around. ‘Animals in Asia’ and ‘Bear Conservation’ are working to end this awful practice and rescue and rehabilitate farmed bears.

Please support our efforts.
