Emus are a flightless bird and are the second largest bird in the world. They are able to run at speeds up to 30 miles per hour and are able to swim when the need arises.
Behaviour:
Emus can be particularly vocal, with some of their calls being heard up to 2KM away. Emus tend to be quite nomadic, moving around the Australian continent, with no real pattern. They will normally travel in pairs but can be found in small flocks. When an EMU mates, it is for life, and unusually it is the male that incubates eggs.
In the wild, Emus are not scared of humans, and will often be seen approaching small groups of people in search of food.

The Emu War
In 1932, the Australian military launched “a nuisance wildlife management military operation” to try and reduce the number of emus on the continent. Although unsuccessful, this is still known to locals as “the emu war”
